Body Dumper Track for Week of August 9, 2010
Congratulations. You are about to hear one of the greatest songs ever written. This weeks BD anthem comes from Neil. “Barstool Blues” appeared on the “Zuma” album which was released in November of 1975. It’s a Rocker/Weeper hybrid. A style that only Neil could perfect. “Zuma” is a criminally underrated album. It features him at possibly his most poignant and reflective. He had just come off the darkest period of his life to date. A Period which included intense drug use, and the loss of friend/musician Danny Whitten of Crazy Horse to an overdose. But Neil kept on and made Zuma for all of us. Proving once again, why he’s an American music treasure.
Lazy Dumper drives on California’s Central coast come to mind. Coastal contemplation has become your coping mechanism to combat life’s rigors. And you can be certain that Neil knows exactly what you are going through. In fact, it’s likely that he’s seen far worse than you could ever realize. But the point is, he makes you feel as if your problems are a collective burden for all of humanity to bare. So your narrow shoulders can rest easy. And you can always see the beauty in the unpredictable but guaranteed pain life offers. After all, that’s just how Neil would want it.
