Body Dumper Cinema: The Car
Few things are more frightening than Body Dumpers. But a BD that is not driver dependent has to be my worst nightmare. The Car is a film from 1977 which stars James Brolin and Kathleen Lloyd. It’s obviously thick on plot. A small town is terrorized by a sinister BD that has an unprovoked blood lust. It’s discovered that the Body Dumper has no driver. It’s simply a renegade killing machine! Yeah that is a wow.
The trailer shows us just how monster this film must be. That shot of the BD doing that circular peel out in the midst of a rodeo is simply dynamite. To make up for campy 70’s drama and bad acting we are blessed with BD chases, BD acrobatics, and senseless pedestrian carnage. Don’t overlook the police Dumpers catching fire as they tumble down mountainsides! Unreal. As always we get a foreshadowing of who the hard ass hero protagonist is. James Brolin appears to be hitting home runs in his attempts at late 1970’s stickman. Featuring a lean physique, million dollar tan and a deluxe mustache, Brolin becomes the inevitable combatant for the renegade Body Dumper. You just know he has some crucial, hard ass dialogue which shows he has accepted his fate as the Body Dumper slayer.
The Car is a perfect film to showcase the inherent nature of the BD. It must not be trusted, not even for a minute. The incarnation of pure evil is its M.O. Please don’t let your guard down.
